I was driving home today when I saw a kitten run out in front of a car. I immediately pulled over and ran after it. It darted under a trash can, and it took four people and a t-shirt I found in the back of my car to rescue it.It didn’t want to be picked up, but as soon as it was wrapped in the blue shirt, it calmed down and relaxed, and was quiet on my lap for the ride to my friend Kyle’s house.

Kyle (who took this photo) was kind enough to give me some cat supplies and some money for kitten formula.

I cannot keep a kitten.I love animals but my husband is throat-close-up allergic to cats. If you live in the Philadelphia area, and you want an adorable tiny kitten, please get in touch. I don’t want my husband’s throat to close up, and I don’t want to give little Kal-El to a kill-shelter, so if you know someone or you are someone who can take this kitten, please let me know.

Astronomers at the European Southern Observatory’s Paranal Observatory in Chile have released a breathtaking new photograph showing the central area of our Milky Way galaxy. The photograph shows a whopping 84 million stars in an image measuring 108500×81500, which contains nearly 9 billion pixels.

It’s actually a composite of thousands of individual photographs shot with the observatory’s VISTA survey telescope, the same camera that captured the amazing 55-hour exposure. Three different infrared filters were used to capture the different details present in the final image.

The VISTA’s camera is sensitive to infrared light, which allows its vision to pierce through much of the space dust that blocks the view of ordinary optical telescope/camera systems.

Just thought I’d give a heads up to everyone at the con this year:

If you got a photo with Image Solutions please read this:

So since I wanted to talk about this. Apparently if you have ever taken photos with a photographer in image solutions…well…you’re a body pillow now. I found this horrible thing in the dealers room. Apparently it’s legal because it’s a “promotional item”. Since when did promotions gets charged? All I can say is I wasn’t told these were going to be made when I SPECIFICALLY talked to him last year what he was going to do with the photos and I do not approve of it at all. He was selling these in the dealers room of the convention he took them at last year thinking the cosplayers would be okay with it. Obviously this man is beyond stupid. He had small pillows and larger ones too. When me, and two friends confronted him he had the AUDACITY to tell me that I was a popular seller, as if that would make me feel more comfortable about this. There were many others who had pillows made and every other person I talked to was disgusted with this.

Be careful of his unsavory business tactics, and if you find out he’s selling you as a product, make sure to confront him and demand a physical copy of whatever crap he had you sign, Also, he doesn’t ask for ages when he does photos, so that being said, there is a chance that some of these photos are of underaged girls. Regardless, it’s shoddy, its horrible, and this guy needs to stop, or get his camera broken. (When I discovered my girlfriend on a pillow and a sticker set…I wasn’t too happy).

I shot with him two years ago and because I was too busy running around, I didn’t get a chance to go into the Dealer’s Room really until Sunday, but I did not see this there. My best friend met up with me later and was telling me this and I was utterly disgusted. I remember having to sign something before the photoshoot, but as it was two years ago, I don’t remember what it entailed, the only thing that comes to mind is that he has permission to use the photos for promotional use, but this is absolutely disgusting. I do not need someone taking a pillow of me home and doing shit with it - it’s pretty much like porn and I do not approve.

As I do not remember what exactly was written on the agreement, I most definitely do not recall anything about using the photos for pillows or the like to make money. That is wrong on too many levels. What if the cosplayer isn’t even 18? And a parent had to sign the form? Wouldn’t that mean underage cosplayers could possibly have their image on a pillow?

I had a longer post about this, but here’s the short version:

If you don’t know a photographer, then you shouldn’t be signing anything that gives them rights to your photos you’re not comfortable giving. And if you do, read the agreement, cross out/edit parts you want changed/clarified, initial the changes, have them initial them too. If they refuse, don’t sign it, and better yet, ask to take the paper to destroy it. Ask for a copy, or take a photo of the contract you just signed if you don’t get one.

I’ll give an assurance first-hand to the goings on, he would have been shut down if he didn’t have a signed model release from the initial complainant. And like it or not, prints are prints, be it on photo paper or a body pillow, and if the agreement was open enough, he had the right to do it… it’s creepy and underhanded as fuck, but legal.

Life gives us endless agreements, contracts, etc. and we really should be reading more of them.

Your rights aren’t worth squat if you sign them away. And like it or not, they have the piece of paper so “I don’t remember anything about that” won’t cut it in a court of law.

Now, here’s hoping enough word gets out on this that cons don’t let him in for future events.

Always read what you sign. Take photos of what you sign. And be careful, especially when you’re giving out rights to photos of you.

I can’t advocate breaking this guy’s camera. How about instead writing to the cons he’s attending and telling them what’s going on? Looking at his list that’s Dragon con, Otakon, NYCC, ANext, SDCC and Anime USA.

Wow, WHAT?! Whether it’s legal or not (I will leave that to the professionals), treating your subjects like a commodity instead of people with feelings is Not Okay. Image releases and contracts should protect BOTH parties, not just allow one to profit at the expense of the other’s dignity.

I support boycotting this entity at cons.

I’ve been hearing a lot about this fiasco, so I’m reblogging this so more people will hear about it.

PLEASE read anything you sign, and make changes if you feel you can’t agree with the release!

According to the blog post, the release that the photographer in question had people sign gave him the right to “use the Content in any Media for any purpose (except pornographic or defamatory)”. To Me, this model release is ridiculous, unprofessional, and something I would NEVER sign. A release that allows the photographer to use your image for promotion and advertising is reasonable, the right to use it for ANYTHING is not, especially if it is not a paid shoot!

Don’t be afraid to speak up and make changes to a contract your not comfortable with. If the photographer will not agree, do not shoot with them.

The photographer in question has apparently removed the pillows from sale in regard to the uproar this has caused, but I hope that this situation helps other cosplayers understand what they are signing.
